SAMADHA - CHACALTAYA LABORATORY

Chacaltaya Laboratory, 5240 m a.s.l., Bolivia

16.35° S - 68.13° W

The laboratory, one of the highest in the world, is located 30 km from the city of La Paz, near the top of Mount Chacaltaya.
It belongs to the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicas.

The Laboratory has a long history in cosmic rays and particle physics.
In the laboratory a 12NM-64 neutron monitor is in operation since 1966.

Beside experiment on cosmic rays and related physics, the laboratory hosts instruments for atmospheric studies.

In particular the Chacaltaya laboratory is a GAW (Global Atmospheric Watch) station, where measurements of relevant atmospheric parameters such as carbon dioxide, aerosols and ultraviolet irradiance are carried out.
